Women make up 85 per cent of non-profit support staff in Canada but hold only 70 per cent of senior executive positions. A US study also found that male leaders in the sector typically hold more power and resources than female leaders do. Hear from women about what the sector needs to change to get more women into leadership roles and why there is optimism for the future in this article. #nonprofitleadership #womeninleadership

CanadaHelps Giving Report 2024 highlights insights and giving trends that are challenging Canada’s charitable sector. While the latest data shows that the total value of charitable donations has increased, the number of people donating has fallen for an 11th straight year. 45% of those who stopped donating in the past few years cite financial constraints. Some other trends include: ◾ A correlation between social connections and philanthropy. People with more close friends are more likely to donate, volunteer, and participate in community events. They also have more confidence in nonprofit leaders. ◾ A rise in online giving with online giving rates almost doubling between 2019-2023 ◾ Increases in gift of securities like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds #philanthropy #nonprofits #charities

Yesterday’s 2024 CCVO Connection Conference was an enlightening gathering of minds, highlighted by a thought-provoking keynote from Vinod Rajasekaran, CEO & Editor-in-Chief of Future of Good. Vinod inspired us to explore the multi-dimensional layers of societal challenges, offering deep insights that could reshape our approach to social impact. Key Takeaways: 1. Innovative Questioning - Shift from “what is” to “what if”? Envision AI outperforming funders, prioritize team wellbeing in every decision, explore how social finance could support our biggest dreams and most importantly ask if your work is harming future generations. 2. Timeless Balance - Emphasize a balanced responsibility to our past, present, and future, ensuring our actions today are beneficial long-term. 3. Innovation vs. Justice - Recognize the dynamics between wanting to overhaul old systems for future building and improving existing ones for justice. Future builders want to make old systems to be obsolete while justice seekers want to work within the current system. 4. Public Trust - Reflect on the varying degrees of trust in NGOs, with only 50% of Canadians and 40% of Indigenous people expressing trust. 5. Potential vs. Preparation - We must confront whether our current approaches are limiting our potential and if they are preparing us adequately for future challenges. Vinod’s insights urge us to rethink not only how we tackle today’s issues but also how we can better prepare for tomorrow’s world. Let’s carry these reflections into our missions and daily practices to truly live up to our highest potential. Always wonderful to see these happy faces: Barb Rallison (Davies) Matt Knox, MBA D'Andre Wilson-Ihejirika, P.Eng, PMP, LSSBBMaria Learmonth Sean Garritty Preston Scholz, CTP Beth Legese Koli A.Megan Kinal Kojo B. TalentED YYC, Corporate Initiatives & Intelligence - Calgary Economic Development

Celebrating CCVO's 20th anniversary, I'm so grateful for the chance to have been among the dynamic professionals, leaders, and changemakers from Alberta's nonprofits, businesses, government, and all sectors for a day of learning and sharing. Our team TalentED YYC, had the privilege to attend the event and sponsor the HR Alley! The workshops and keynotes on innovative best practices across all sectors were incredibly insightful, and the thought leadership inspired me to consider how I could contribute to tackling complex issues like funding, advocacy, and workforce development from a systems perspective. This was also my first event at the Grey Eagle, and the hospitality was impeccable. The kindness, warmth, and humility of the staff were remarkable. When I shared my feedback, a manager took the time to explain how such excellence in human connection and hospitality is rooted in the Tsuut'ina Nation's culture of the reserve which the staff uphold. Awe-inspiring! I look forward to learning more about this beautiful culture. I really hope that more students will consider nonprofit work as a career path, and I'm excited about the impact we continue to make together. Shout out to our amazing team for making our booth so engaging! Megan Kinal Koli Agbing Marie St. Antoine, BA, CPHR Alena Schock D'Andre Wilson-Ihejirika, P.Eng, PMP, LSSBB

Executive Director - Making Changes Association

What a great way to spend a Thursday -- connecting with those in the volunteer/social good sector at #CCVOConnections! Congratulations to the CCVO team on a wonderful event. Exceptional speakers, panel discussions, sessions, and networking. It was wonderful to get together as a collective again after so many years. Vinod Rajasekaran - CEO at Future of Good - set the tone for the day with a thought provoking opening keynote speech. How can those of us who work in and support this sector go from "What Is" to "What If"? How can we ensure today's approaches will satisfy tomorrow's needs? What are the self-limiting narratives we have as individuals? As organizations? As a sector? And as a society? Happy 20th Anniversary CCVO! Thank you for continuing to bring so many passionate people together for these important conversations. On behalf of the team at Making Changes Association and Dress for Success Calgary, we are all honoured to be part of such an amazing community committed to "doing good" -- and committed to figuring out how to "do good", better. #bettertogether #empoweringwomen #socialgood #whatif #CCVOConnections
