Lithium Chile and Grupo Errázuriz Team Up to Boost Lithium Production in Chile
Calgary, Alberta -- February 6, 2025 -- NewsGenie -- Lithium Chile Inc. and Grupo Errázuriz, through their respective subsidiaries, have jointly applied for a Special Lithium Operation Contract (CEOL) for the Coipasa salt flat in Chile's Tarapacá region. This move aligns with Chile's National Lithium Strategy, which aims to expedite viable lithium projects.
The application, a 50-50 partnership, seeks to expand lithium production beyond the Atacama salt flat. Francisco Javier Errázuriz, President of Grupo Errázuriz, stated that the joint venture meets the government's criteria for industry experience, financial capability, and control over mining concessions, covering 89.83% of the Salar de Coipasa polygon.
Steve Cochrane, President & CEO of Lithium Chile, emphasized the collaboration's importance for sustainable projects and regional socio-economic growth. He noted Grupo Errazuriz's DLE technology and plant in Copiapo, anticipating substantial benefits from the cooperation.
The Mining Ministry will provide a CEOL model to the applicants if the requirements are met. Agreement on the CEOL will lead to its execution after an indigenous consultation process and issuance of a supreme decree. A public tender will not be required if the simplified procedure is successful.
