On Wednesday, October 24, CCVO will release its new research on the Alberta nonprofit sector. The report: Lighting the Way: The State of the Alberta Nonprofit Sector 2018 – to be released at a luncheon event on October 24 – explores the state of the nonprofit sector, looks to the year ahead, and shares priorities of nonprofits for the upcoming provincial election and some suggestions for collective action.

WHO: CCVO is convening nonprofit leaders and sector supporters to hear from expert perspectives on the report findings. The event features Janet Brown, Pollster and Political Commentator, and Duane Bratt, Political Science Professor and Chair, Department of Economics, Mount Royal University.

WHAT: Key findings from Lighting the Way: The State of the Alberta Nonprofit Sector 2018 include:

  1. A cautious optimism among nonprofit sector leaders – despite the lingering impacts of the economic downturn on funding availability.

  2. Uncertainty about the impact of the next provincial election around potential changing priorities and available funding.

  3. Nonprofit sector leaders identified three main issues that they would like to see addressed by political parties in the upcoming provincial election:

    • -Clearer communications between the government and the sector.

-Recognition of the contributions that the nonprofit sector makes both socially and economically.

-More sustainable, predictable, and flexible funding.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 22, 2018 @ 12-1:30pm

WHERE: Fairmont Palliser, Alberta Room, 133 - 9 Ave SW, Calgary, AB

WHY: The nonprofit sector plays an important social and economic role in Alberta. CCVO is evolving the narrative about the sector; this report and the event explore sector-wide strategies that will bring nonprofit organizations together to create change and address issues, beginning with the upcoming provincial election.
