Ares Strategic Mining to Collaborate with Iowa State University on Gallium Extraction
VANCOUVER, B.C. — July 31, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Ares Strategic Mining Inc. is collaborating with Iowa State University (ISU) and the Ames National Laboratory to explore gallium extraction from its fluorspar ores at the Spor Mountain project in Utah.
Gallium, crucial for electronics, photonics, and clean energy, is vital in LEDs, semiconductors, and electronics. The research offers Ares a chance to expand beyond fluorspar into critical materials.
ISU’s Microelectronics Research Center will conduct a two-phase research program to assess and extract gallium from Ares’ samples using an alkaline process inspired by the Bayer method.
Ares Strategic Mining CEO James Walker noted that the company's capacity to tap into domestic gallium supplies could provide strategic value, as global markets face pressure to secure non-Chinese sources. Preliminary results from ISU indicated gallium presence and extraction feasibility.
Ares Strategic Mining Inc. focuses on developing fluorspar projects in the U.S., aiming to supply high-grade fluorspar to North American markets. The Lost Sheep Fluorspar Project in Delta, Utah, is fully permitted with identified high-grade fluorspar.
